Terms of Service

These terms cover everything called Music Block: the Music Block app in ChatGPT, the website at musicblock.app, and the notation editor on that website. In these terms, "we" and "us" means Music Block and "you" means the person using it. By using Music Block you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

1. The service

  • The ChatGPT app shows music that ChatGPT writes in your conversation as notation, guitar TAB or drum notation, with playback, share links, exports and a Save button. It is free and doesn't need a Music Block account.
  • The website holds share links, your library of saved examples, public example pages and the help center.
  • The editor lets you create, import, edit, play and export scores, by hand or by asking an AI assistant. It needs an account. Editing by hand, playback, MusicXML and Guitar Pro imports, exports, the library and share links are free. Asking the AI assistant and reading scanned sheet music use credits (see section 4).

The editor is in early access. Features, limits and the number of credits an action uses may change while we develop it.

2. Who can use Music Block

You must be at least 13 years old, or older if the law where you live requires it. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you need the permission of a parent or guardian, and only they may buy a plan or credits. You may not use Music Block if the law forbids you to.

3. Your account

You sign in with Google or with a link sent to your email address. Keep access to that account secure: what is done through your account is your responsibility. One person, one account: don't create several accounts to get extra free credits. When you press Save in the ChatGPT app and sign in, your Music Block account is linked to the anonymized identifier ChatGPT gives us, so later saves go straight to your library. You can delete your account at any time from the account page.

4. Plans, credits and payments

  • Credits. AI edits in the editor and reading scanned sheet music use credits. The pricing page shows how many credits these actions usually take. Large jobs show an estimate and wait for you to confirm. A scan that can't be read gives its credits back. Credits have no cash value, can't be transferred or exchanged for money, and are only usable in Music Block.
  • Free trial. New accounts get a one-time allowance of trial credits, once per person and email address. Trial credits don't expire. We may also grant credits for other reasons, such as completing a survey.
  • Plans. Paid plans are monthly subscriptions that renew automatically at the price shown when you subscribed until you cancel. Each month adds the plan's credits. Unused monthly credits carry over once, for one more month, and then expire.
  • Top-ups. You can buy extra credits on any plan. Purchased credits stay valid for 12 months from purchase. If you turn on automatic top-up, you authorize us to charge your saved payment method the amount you chose whenever your balance falls below the threshold you set, up to the monthly limit you set. You can turn it off at any time.
  • Order of use. Credits that expire soonest are used first.
  • Changing or cancelling a plan. An upgrade takes effect immediately. A downgrade takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You can cancel from Plan & credits in your account; your plan then runs until the end of the period you paid for and does not renew. Purchased credits are kept after you cancel.
  • Payments. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see your full card details. Prices include any taxes that apply. Invoices and receipts come from Stripe.
  • Refunds. Payments are not refundable, except where the law requires it or where we decide to refund. If a purchase is refunded or disputed, the unused credits it added are removed. We may suspend an account while a payment dispute is open.
  • Price changes. We will announce changes to plan prices or monthly credit amounts before they apply to you. A new price applies from your next billing period after the announcement, and you can cancel before then.
  • Deleting your account ends a paid subscription immediately, without a refund for the rest of the period, and any unused credits are lost.

5. Your content

Your content is what you put into Music Block (messages to the editor's assistant, files and scans you import, notes you enter, feedback you send) and the scores made from it. You keep whatever rights you have in your content. You give us permission to store, process, display and copy your content only as needed to run Music Block for you: for example to show and play your scores, send your requests to the AI and sheet-music-reading services listed in the Privacy Policy, create exports, and serve share links you create. We also look at stored content to fix problems and improve the service, as described in the Privacy Policy.

Editor projects are private to your account. Share links from the ChatGPT app can be opened by anyone who has the link, so only share what you are happy for others to see. Public example pages on the website are published by us, not by users.

6. AI-generated music

In the ChatGPT app the music is written by ChatGPT; in the editor it is written by AI models from Anthropic (Claude) that we use. AI output can be wrong, awkward or unplayable, and it can resemble existing music. We check that it is valid notation, not that it is correct, original or fit for your purpose. Review it before relying on it, for example before teaching, performing, publishing or recording it. Where the law allows, you may use the output you get for your own requests as you wish. We make no claim to own it, but we can't promise that it can be protected by copyright or that others won't get similar output.

7. Copyright and acceptable use

Only import, enter or share music you have the right to use: your own work, public-domain material, or music you have permission to use. The ChatGPT app is meant for short original examples, exercises and public-domain material, not for reproducing copyrighted songs or published transcriptions. When you import sheet music into the editor, you are responsible for having the right to copy and adapt it.

You also agree not to:

  • use Music Block for anything illegal, or to infringe anyone's rights;
  • upload malware or files designed to harm the service or other users;
  • get around credits, usage limits, payment or security measures, for example by creating accounts to collect trial credits;
  • overload the service, scrape it, or access it by automated means other than the ChatGPT integration we provide;
  • resell or provide Music Block to others as a service without our written permission;
  • use Music Block to build a competing product or to train AI models.

If you believe content on Music Block infringes your copyright, email support@musicblock.app with the link and details of the work, and we will review it and take it down where appropriate.

8. Other services

Your use of ChatGPT is governed by OpenAI's terms, and signing in with Google by Google's terms. We are not responsible for those services. Music Block is not made or endorsed by OpenAI, Anthropic or Google.

9. Changes, suspension and ending

We may change, limit or stop parts of Music Block, set usage limits, and update the ChatGPT app. If we stop offering paid plans, we will tell you in advance and stop renewing subscriptions. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, abuses the service or is involved in fraud or a payment dispute; where reasonable, we will tell you first. You can stop using Music Block and delete your account at any time.

10. Disclaimers

Music Block is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we give no warranties of any kind, including that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free or always available, or that notation, playback, imports or exports will be accurate. Keep your own copies of anything important (the editor can export it).

11. Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits or lost data, and our total liability for any claim relating to Music Block is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or takes away rights you have as a consumer under the law where you live.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as Music Block changes. We will post the new version here with a new date, and email account holders about significant changes before they take effect. If you keep using Music Block after a change takes effect, the new terms apply; if you don't agree, you can cancel and delete your account.
